If you would like to straighten your teeth, you have probably considered the prospect of getting braces or Invisalign. However, it is understandable if you are a little reluctant to commit to months or even years of treatment. Did you know that some patients are eligible for a type of “instant orthodontics”? This blog post discusses how veneers might be able to give you straight teeth.

Veneers as Instant Orthodontics

Veneers are custom-made porcelain sheaths that a dentist attaches to the outward-facing surfaces of the teeth. Their job is to hide aesthetic imperfections. Many people get them to disguise discoloration, chips, cracks, asymmetrical teeth, and similar issues.

In certain cases, they can even be used to correct the appearance of slightly misaligned teeth. However, it is important to note that they do not actually move teeth. They can simply give the impression that the teeth are straight. For people with very minor cases of dental misalignment, that is often all they want to accomplish!

Here are a few examples of orthodontic issues that veneers can sometimes disguise:

  • Small gaps between the teeth.
  • Slightly crooked or rotated teeth.
  • A minor open bite.

If your dental misalignment is moderate or severe, you may need braces or Invisalign before you can qualify for veneers.

Advantages of Veneers as Instant Orthodontics

Veneers have some perks that make them more appealing than braces and Invisalign:

  • Veneers can correct multiple cosmetic imperfections at once.
  • The treatment process can require as few as two appointments, spaced just a few weeks apart.
  • You will not have to deal with the repeated discomfort that can be caused by braces.
  • There are no strict dietary rules with veneers.
  • Taking care of veneers is very similar to caring for natural teeth.

Are Veneers Right for You?

If you are interested in getting veneers to hide your dental misalignment, visit a qualified dental professional. After they learn about your oral health and goals, they can recommend the best treatment for your unique situation.

It is also important to keep your budget in mind. Whereas some dental insurance plans are willing to pay for part of the cost of braces, they are much less likely to provide coverage for veneers because they are classified as a purely elective treatment.

You might not need braces to straighten your teeth! Talk to your dentist about alternative ways to achieve your dream smile.
