What Are Dental Veneers?

Veneers are thin pieces of porcelain, sometimes referred to as sheaths, that we place on the outward-facing surfaces of the teeth. Their job is to hide aesthetic imperfections, including:

  • Stains and discoloration
  • Small chips and cracks
  • Small gaps between the teeth
  • Asymmetrical teeth
  • Teeth that appear disproportionately small
  • And more!

The porcelain that veneers are made of bears a remarkable resemblance to natural tooth enamel, so onlookers should not be able to tell that you have undergone some cosmetic services. Veneers are also very durable and have the potential to last for many years.

The Process of Getting Veneers

The process of designing and placing veneers requires at least two dental appointments. After your initial consultation, we will prepare your teeth by removing just a sliver of enamel. This is to make sure that your veneers adhere well to your teeth and look as natural as possible.

You will wear temporary veneers while a dental laboratory fabricates your permanent ones. Once your veneers are ready, we will inspect them to make sure they live up to our strict quality standards. Then, we will attach the veneers to your teeth, and you can go off to start enjoying your beautiful new look!

Benefits of Veneers

Some of the most noteworthy benefits of veneers include:

  • Veneers are carefully customized for each patient. Their size, shape, and color will all be tailored to you. Dr. Lee even uses a custom stain kit to ensure an exact color match.
  • Natural appearance. Porcelain reflects light in a manner that is similar to real tooth enamel, so your smile will look both beautiful and natural.
  • Stain resistance. Porcelain is nonporous, so pigments tend to slide right off it. You can expect your veneers to maintain their original color for many years.
  • Veneers have been known to last for 15 – 20 years or longer with proper care. They can stand up to all the rigors of normal eating and drinking.
  • Fast treatment. From start to finish, the veneer process may take just a few weeks.

Understanding the Cost of Veneers

The cost of your treatment will depend on how many veneers you wish to receive and other factors. Although veneers are not usually covered by insurance, there are other provisions for making them affordable. For example, you may qualify for low-interest financing. We also have a convenient in-house discount plan .

Veneers FAQs

If you are interested in enhancing your smile with veneers, our team is ready to serve you. Of course, you may want to learn more about this treatment before you commit to anything. If you have questions, we will be happy to answer them when you visit us for your cosmetic consultation. In the meantime, you may gain some valuable insight by reviewing the FAQs listed below.

Are Veneers Permanent?

Depending on how you care for your veneers, they have the potential to last for decades. Since they will eventually need to be replaced, they are not technically permanent.

However, veneers can be considered permanent in a different sense. During the treatment process, we often need to remove a sliver of tooth enamel in order to ensure a desirable final result. The enamel will not regrow on its own, so your teeth will always need veneers or another type of restoration to protect them.

Even though veneers require a permanent commitment, they are still an excellent treatment! The vast majority of patients who get them have no regrets about their decision.

Is There Anything I Cannot Eat with Veneers?

While you are wearing temporary veneers, it would be best to avoid sticky, hard, and chewy foods. Temporary veneers are also vulnerable to stains, so we recommend that you limit your consumption of highly pigmented items.

Permanent veneers are more durable. They can stand up to all normal eating habits, so you should feel free to eat and drink all of your favorite items. Of course, it would still be wise to take some prudent precautions. For example, you should avoid biting on ice or other extremely hard items that could break or chip your veneers. Essentially you shouldn’t do anything or eat anything that you wouldn’t do with your natural teeth.

Can Veneers Be Used for Bite Corrections?

While veneers can be used for some very minor bite corrections, they are not nearly as effective as orthodontic treatment. They cannot address moderate or severe misalignment. Our team can let you know if you should get Invisalign or braces before you move forward with getting veneers.

How Many Veneers Will I Need?

Veneers are a highly customizable treatment. Some patients choose to get a single veneer to hide a chipped tooth. Others get up to 10 – 12 veneers to cover all the teeth that are visible when they smile.

The right number of veneers for you will depend on your aesthetic goals and your budget. Our team can recommend a treatment plan based on your unique circumstances. Our goal is to create a look that is natural and seamless!
